Question

How do I hide chapters that I won't be teaching in Vantage?

Solution

Locate your course on your My Courses dashboard and click Assignments.

From you My Courses dashboard, each course will have an Assignments tab.

If you are already in another area of your Vantage course, you can easily get to the Assignments from the top navigation menu.

If you are in another tab of your course, you can use the top navigation menu to access the Assignments tab.

The Show/Hide Chapters option allows you to quickly unassign all contents of the chapter.

At the top left of the Assignments page, click "Show/Hide Chapters" to see the list of chapters in the textbook. You can select which chapters to use and which to hide.

TIP: Even if a chapter is "hidden" from the course, students can still access the content.

In the chapter list, uncheck the box for any chapter you want to exclude from your course.

In the Show/Hide Chapters list, each chapter has a checkbox. All chapters are checked by default which includes them in the course. Uncheck the box next to any chapter to hide it.

Once you are finished with your selections, click Save at the bottom of the page. You can also Cancel without saving any changes.

Once you click Save on the "Show/Hide Chapters" page, you will see a pop-up message asking you to confirm your changes. This pop-up indicates that any assignments within the chapter will be automatically unassigned. Click Save to confirm or Cancel to exit without saving any changes.

After you choose to hide a chapter, a pop-up message will ask you to confirm. Click Save to confirm or Cancel to go back to the Show/Hide Chapters page.

In the Table of Contents, the hidden chapter is greyed out. All sections and assignments for the chapter are also greyed out. A message at the top of the Table of Contents indicates this content is not covered.

Once a chapter is hidden, the title of the chapter is greyed out in the table of contents.

When a chapter is hidden, students can still access the content. However, all content for that chapter will be greyed out in the table of contents. A message also appears at the top of the table of contents indicating the material is not going to be covered in the course.

If you decide at a later date that you want to include a hidden chapter, you can revisit the "Show/Hide Chapters" page. Check the box for that chapter and save your changes. You can then edit due dates and assignment settings as normal.
