Question

Vantage Release Enhancements for July 8th, 2021

Answer

New Vantage User Role:

Course Coordinator role and dashboard

·        Coordinator is a new Vantage role that allows Coordinators at an institution to:

o   Create and edit course templates

o   Create and assign multiple Vantage courses from that template (up to 10 at a time)

o   Search for current Vantage instructors in their assigned department

o   Create new Vantage instructors for the department they manage

·        Anyone designated as a Coordinator will also have a special dashboard within Vantage that non-coordinators will not see (like the instructors ‘my courses’ dashboard)

·        If you require this functionality, please contact lmssupport@sagepub.com

Instructor-facing Enhancements:

1.       Ability to hide questions (Chapter Tests only)

·        Allows instructors to hide up to 10 questions in a Chapter Test.

·        When might this be used?

o   To hide questions tied to a learning objective an instructor does not cover or want to assess on.

o   To hide questions instructors might not like.

o   To hide questions where there might be an error (these questions should be reported to Sage so we can make the fix on the platform for other users).

2.       Improved assignments page

·        Instructors can now expand all contents within a chapter from the assignment tab which will help them design their course more quickly by being able to see where all the assignments fall within that chapter.

3.       Accept late assignments from individual students

·        Instructors can now accept late work from individual students. If a student needs more time to complete an assignment, the instructor can now simply accept the late work instead of having to change the date or setting for the entire class.

4.       Generate a course link to share with students joining a course (for non-LMS integrated courses)

·        Simplified registration process for students in non-integrated courses. Clicking on the link will automatically put students into that course under a grace period after completing any required registration steps. This will help ensure students are joining the correct Vantage course and get them started working in it more efficiently.

5.       Change global gradebook settings

·        When instructors make changes to the global settings of their course, it will no longer overwrite individual settings they might have made to an assignment.

6.       New Grace Period restrictions

·        Sage offers a 14-day Grace Period (free access) to Vantage for all students. Due to instructors’ concerns about students working too far ahead, they have requested restrictions to this. Students under a Grace Period will now only be allowed to complete 3 Chapter Tests before they are required to purchase full access to Vantage. After completing the third Chapter Test, they will only have access to the reading in Vantage for the remainder of their 14-day grace period and cannot complete any activities. This will also encourage students to not wait too long before purchasing their full Vantage subscription.

7.       Course Creation improvements

·        Instructors can now search for a Vantage title by author or title name, making it easier to find the title they are looking for. This will be a new field above the existing course drop down and title drop down options.

8.       Improvements made to accept and update grades for students affected by emergency corrections made to assessment questions

·        If more than one question has been updated by Sage, instructors can now accept all grade updates in one click or go through each question one by one and accept updates individually.

Student-facing enhancements:

9.       Unlimited reviews of their completed Chapter Test

·        If allowed by instructors during course creation (default setting will be allowed), students will be able to review their completed Chapter Test as many times as needed to better understand their course material (one of the most requested functionalities from both instructors and students). Unlimited reviews are now the default setting at course creation.

10.   Accessibility remediation for color contrast, heading levels, and screen reader focus

·        Accessibility is always on the Vantage roadmap as an on-going project. We continue to make improvements every term to continue to address accessibility needs.

11.   Self-service option to transfer between courses

·        Students will now have the capability to transfer to another Vantage course using the same title as the course they are currently enrolled in. This eliminates the trouble of having to call Tech Support.

12.   Self-service option to find their subscription purchased via different email & merge accounts

·        If a student purchased access to Vantage with a different email address than the one they are using for their course, they will now be able to move their subscription access to the correct account. This eliminates the trouble of having to call Tech Support.

13.   Fixes made to the notes & highlights tool

14.   New Sage video player for video activities

·        We have upgraded Vantage to new video player with enhanced accessibility features.
